Actress and director Olivia Wilde, who has spent decades in the public eye, was discussing why San Francisco was the perfect backdrop for her new movie, The Invite, when viewers became distracted by her appearance instead.

After the clip began circulating online, reactions came quickly.

Reposting the interview on X, one user wrote, “Olivia Wilde looks like a medical cadaver came to life.” The post, shared on Tuesday (April 28), has already gained more than one million views and over 7,500 likes.

The comments section quickly filled with speculation, with several users questioning whether the actress looked unwell or underweight. “Ain’t no way; that has to be fake,” one user said.

Not everyone responded critically, however. Many fans pushed back against the comments and argued that people were overreacting to normal aging and camera distortion. “She had always been thin she’s just aging Jesus,” one person wrote. “Hot take: she’s not Ozempic and it’s not 2008 anymore. She’s just old now?” another added.

Others pointed out that the video itself may have distorted her features.

“She looks deformed. This video was severely edited. Stop using this fake shit for click bait,” one person wrote.

Olivia herself has spoken openly in the past about beauty standards and how misleading celebrity images can be. In a 2015 interview with HuffPost, the mother of two reflected on how carefully curated public images often create unrealistic expectations.

“The photos of me in this magazine have been generously constructed to show my best angles and I assure you, good lighting has been warmly embraced,” the 42-year-old revealed. “The truth is, I’m a mother, and I look like one.”

She has also criticized the public’s tendency to treat celebrity lives and appearances as open for judgment.

Speaking about fame and media culture, Olivia once said, “If you are making something that you’re selling to the public, you somehow have accepted that your life will be torn to shreds by a pack of wolves. No, that’s actually not part of the job description. Never was.”

The actress has also addressed ageism, particularly during the time she was dating Harry Styles, who is ten years younger than her. “It’s so interesting for me when that comes from women because I’m like, ‘Do you plan on not getting older? Or if you already are older, do you feel that you don’t deserve the same opportunities in life?’” she told Elle. “It’s so sad to me.”

While much of the online conversation focused on her appearance, Olivia is currently promoting The Invite, an English-language remake of the Spanish film The People Upstairs.

Directed by Olivia herself, the film stars Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton alongside her.

The comedy premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival before screening at the San Francisco International Film Festival on April 24.

In the film, Olivia plays Angela, a San Francisco woman deeply invested in renovating her apartment while dealing with marital tensions with her husband Joe, played by Seth Rogen.

The story follows the couple as they invite their upstairs neighbors, Hawk and Pina, over for dinner—though each has very different reasons for the evening.
